RE: Worst. Team. Ever.

Just to reiterate what I said on August 26, the NY Jets are the worst team in football. Even with teams that have no wins are able to score more points and put up a better fight on defense.

The personnel isn't there. The coaching isn't there.

All aspects of the NY Jets are atrocious. At all levels, players, coaches, management, there is nothing but disappointment.

They have virtually no players that are, what Bill Parcells called, "Blue Chip" guys. There is talent, but still no proper coaching to develop it. There is opportunity, but no ability to take advantage of it.

Let's be honest, who starts at QB is probably the least important problem. The offensive line: ramshackle. The wide receivers: slow and stony handed. The defense: porous.

The injuries, including the major one suffered today by Santonio Holmes, are only adding to the disaster known as the 2012 season.

The NY Jets are well and truly done for the season. Maybe they'll win 2-3 more games, but that would only hurt their chances at getting a better draft pick. Which would inevitably be a bust.

If only they ended the season after week one....

Birthdays, Weddings, and Things

I suppose there are so many September birthdays because it's 9 months after New Years.

And, I suppose it's that time in life where everybody's getting married. This time it was in a baseball stadium.

Lots of people I haven't seen in a long time. Lots of people I didn't expect to see. Lots of people I never expected to see again. But all in all, a good time had by all.

What it really needed to make it perfect was some Sexy Sax Man.

One of These Things

Is Not Like the Others

Hmm.... I wonder what it could be....

Also seen tonight was the "fresh" produce and candy sharing an aisle.

Today = Good Day

Because I was unable to get to the Greek Festival last week (Yiasou!), I was deprived a gyro and baklava sundae. So, deciding that I don't have the patience to make baklava, I instead chose to make my own gyros.

Great success!

I was lucky enough to find lamb at the supermarket, but I think I could have easily used beef, or possibly even pork. The unfortunate thing was that I used lamb shoulder, which was mostly connective tissue and bone. Oh well; into the crock pot for stock you go!

Now I've got lamb stock. I have no idea what to do with lamb stock. Anybody need lamb stock?

Anyway, adding some herbs and spices to the meat is what really makes it taste Greek/Mediterranean.

Cook it, wrap it in a pita with some tzatziki and onions and you get the final product.

It wasn't as exact as I'd like, mostly because I'm used to having more of a doner kebab type of meat, but this was still good. For a first time try it was spectacular.

The only problem now is that I have too much tzatziki left over. Looks like I'm going to be eating a lot of it with everything for the next week or so. Pop tarts and tzatziki, mashed potatoes and tzatziki, macaroni and cheese and tzatziki, ice cream and tzatziki, and so on.

And to top it all off, Time Warner finally came to an agreement with the NFL network, so not only do I get the NFL network, but also the NFL Red Zone.

Inflammable Means Flammable?

What a country!

Toner is flammable! Kinda glad I'm only finding this out now. There might have been a lot of terrible things going on with my mother's office supplies when I was growing up if I had known.

Hmm?

Greek yogurt? What's that about?

Cucumbers? Really? Ok, I guess...

Why are there pitas?

Lamb?! There's lamb?! No way!

I guess we all know what this means...No, Bruce - what does that mean?

Midnight Blue

Another song I've had stuck in my head for a while. I do wish I'd been around for the 70's.

There's a bunch of music from then that's getting heavy rotation right now.

Wacky World of Football

All the games today, with a few exceptions, were completely crazy. The Saints are crumbling, the Patriots stumbling, Tony Romo still can't win in Seattle, and the Jets remembered who they were (which isn't a good thing).

Another stellar (sarcasm) performance on my fantasy teams this week, by the way.

It did all end with a decisive win for the team that the NY Jets insist they are, but really wish they were; perhaps the best team playing in the NFL right now, the 49ers.

My day actually ended with watching a bit of a silent film. Called The Merry Widow, it was a very strange, yet amusing, movie based off an Austro-Hungarian composer's operetta. But really the best part, and indeed, the only part worth seeing was actor Roy D'Arcy portraying a bizarre character, Prince Mirko.

Nothing is quite as awesomely creepy as his smile as he stares at the camera. Why that isn't a meme or on a t-shirt yet is mind boggling.

So that was the day. Football and silent film.

At exactly what point did my life turn into this?

Food

Went out and got some Mexican food for dinner. Copious amounts were had for very little money. The after effects are still yet to be felt.

3 effing plates!!! Wasn't expecting that.
Then a little card game.
Uh-oh...where are the numbers?

Trip To Wally-World

Thanks to some asshole inconsiderate neighbors, I went out to Walmart to kill some time. Here's what I saw.

So normal toilet paper isn't good enough? Not even the leaves, huh?

I don't see how this is going to be good for anyone. That's not a stance on gun control, just an observation/opinion brought from common sense.

So that's where the Thanksgiving stuff is kept when the store isn't whoring out Halloween or Christmas. Although, I would have my Christmas decorations up all the time if I didn't find it obnoxious.

Can you believe these were on clearance?! Where's the American public when you need them?

This as well! Unbelievable!

Crazy Old Man

All day I've heard this low bass rumble. Turns out there's a block party going on down by the Earthfare near the entrance to my apartment complex. Didn't realize it until I came home from work and almost died trying to get to a parking spot.

I wanted to go over there and yell at them for being too loud. Then I realized how much this line of thinking was making me out to be some old man yelling at some kids on his lawn.

It was an Alpha & Omega point of view I had. I understood why crazy old people shout at the youths of today. It's not that they miss the glory days of yesteryear, and feel some sort of jealousy, but they're looking for their home to be a peaceful and away from crowds.

So, what am I going to do? I'm going to see how long I can take this, then fight my way out of here and probably go to a 24hr Walmart.

Finally

It's taken nearly 2 weeks, but the hole is finally gone from my bathroom ceiling.

 Going, going

Gone.

Like Spinnig Plates

Some days feel like all you're doing is spinning a bunch of plates that somebody else started spinning.

Only very few, and very rare days am I this good. But when I'm at my best, nobody on earth is better than me.

Nobody.

Gridiron

Football means that for one day a week, I can forget about everything that's going on in the world and focus on something I truly enjoy. All the stuff you put up with at work, all the annoyances from everyday life all seem to stop. You can then focus on something else.

Sure there are highs and lows that come, but each week offers something new. Good surprises, bad surprises, things never even thought possible all happen across the country. You could be watching a legend in his prime, the end of a storied career, or the start of something great.

To quote Vince Lombardi
I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle - victorious.
Football is a way of life. More so in Texas than elsewhere, but it's still a major part to the American sports fan's life. We have our favorites, our mortal enemies, our fair-weather teams. They can dictate our personal preferences. I hate the entirety of New England because of the Patriots.

But I digress. Football gives you staggering highs and devastating lows. But it is a great game. Controversies, heartbreak, and joy all make it spectacular.

And it's also good toe see Tony Siragusa on TV every once in a while.

Uhmm?

I had an idea to write something, but my mind has decided to leave me. So here's some artwork from Mister Hope.

Also, the hole in my bathroom ceiling still exists, and will most likely exist past this weekend into next week. I reported the problem last Saturday. It would have been faster if I had done it myself. It would have cost me money, but it would have been done right and fast.

I think it may be time to stop renting.

Go out and laugh. Get the nitrous oxide tanks hooked up and have a bit of a laugh

Ah, go on. Just a little one.

Come on. I know Dr. Tickles and he does make house calls. For a price.

Dr. Tickles has a very particular set of skills; skills acquired over a very long career. Skills that make him a nightmare for people that don't laugh. If you laugh now, that'll be the end of it. He will not look for you, he will not pursue you. But if you don't, he will look for you, he will find you.

Football

On a lighter note, for a change, football is officially back.

Yay.

In other news, the hole in my ceiling is bigger, and the leak is still not fixed.

But in other other news, there will be some new Arrested Development coming out sooner, rather than later.

Yes, very good news indeed.

Make Like A Tree

And Get Out of Here

It really is a matter of time before I head out of this place. The days I picked up at work are now given to someone else. The hole and leak in my bathroom ceiling is still there, even after someone else looked at it. The new unexpected day off gives me a whole day to wait for the maintenance man to come by.

My patience is wearing thin.

Much like this.

I was thinking about Winston-Salem, but I keep hearing it's kinda ghetto. I grew up in the ghetto and swore I would never return.

Ho-hum. I might go cook something. Like mini chicken pot pies

Sleep

For most of today, I've only wanted to sleep. The weather contributed to this by being dark and grey for the majority of the day. I've also had a headache, off and on, for the past week, so here's the Nerdist Channel on youtube.

There's cut down episodes of Farscape, sketches from the Kids in the Hall, and some other funny stuff.

Also check out some episodes of The Critic that have made their way onto youtube, like this

Oh, Marvelous

Just what I needed.

A leak in the ceiling over the shower.

Good news is, it's maintenance office says its easily fixable, and not really expensive (whatever the eff that means). Bad news is that it wont be fixed until after Labor Day (Monday).

The past few days have really, really, really made me an even firmer believer that I'm in completely the wrong place.

God give me strength.......
